About
BAF – is an independent non-profit institution, which aims to develop Ukrainian contemporary art. It was created on the basis of the private collection of Liudmyla and Eugene Bereznitsky
Our history
Bereznitsky Art Foundation was founded in 2016, but our story begins from the 1990s. When Luidmyla Bereznitska started collecting art. She was one of the first art-collectors in Ukraine.
In 1993 was opened one of the first private gallery in Ukraine – L-Art. The focus of Luidmyla Bereznitska`s interests was Ukrainian art of the second half of the 20th century (all important areas) and current art of the times of independent Ukraine.
The Eidos Foundation was opened in in 2005 and it had a huge impact on the shaping of the Ukrainian art-market. "Eidos" became the first step in the career for many noted cultural figures today. This foundation had many tasks, but all of them ultimately had to lead to the creation of a powerful, self-reproducing professional environment capable of generating relevant cultural processes with a high demand factor.
Since 2006 Luidmyla Bereznitska`s son Eugene joined the company and gallery received a new name Bereznitsky Gallery in Kyiv and Berlin. He headed the Kyiv gallery, and Lyudmila Bereznytska headed the Berlin gallery. During the existence of the two galleries, many well-known projects were implemented.
In 2016, together with his son, the curator of Kyiv art week - Eugene Bereznitsky, Liudmyla Bereznitska founded the Bereznitsky Art Foundation.
Our mission and values
The Foundation is a non-profit organization which aims to expand the possibilities of the artistic environment in Ukraine, supplementing it with new tools. The fund is also created as a basis for the representation and replenishment of our private collection. We hope that someday the collection will become a common property for Ukraine. To do this, several times a year we introduce the viewer to the projects formed on the basis of our collection and continue to replenish the collection with works by young Ukrainian artists who are in the mainstream of the process.
Our missions are:
-
To promote young artists.
-
To create a private collecting movement in Ukraine, which becomes a part of the cultural circulation of Ukrainian art in various public areas in Ukraine and abroad.
-
To popularise a significant part of Ukrainian culture in projects-dialogues between the past and the present.
-
To increase the collection with modern works which have the potential to become a cultural heritage and be a part of comprehensive representation of Ukrainian visual culture.
